I hope you are well and looking forward to going back to school and Easter.
There are three messages today. The first is to ask you about Lent. Have you given up anything for Lent ? I have given up crisps, I always enjoy eating them.
Our first reading is Jesus in the wilderness and being tempted.
Reading Matthew Ch 4, v1-11
Jesus went into the wilderness and was tempted by the Devil. For forty days and forty nights Jesus ate nothing. The Devil came to Jesus and told him to change the stones into bread. Then the Devil took Jesus to the highest part of the Temple and told him to throw himself down from there and have the angels catch him. Finally the Devil took Jesus to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms on Earth and said “All this is yours if you will fall down and worship me”. Jesus replied No ! to all three temptations “Go away Satan” (Satan is another word for the Devil) Worship the Lord, your God and serve only Him.
Jesus was certainly put to the test. Do you think you could have been strong and said “No !”.
Our second reading is about Palm Sunday on March 28th, here is the story: Luke 19 Entering Jerusalem.
On the outskirts of Jerusalem, Jesus spoke to two of his disciples. “Go on ahead of us,” he said. “At the edge of the next village, you will find a donkey. Bring it to me and, if anyone asks you why you are taking it, tell them that I sent you and that I will return it to them”
The men found the donkey, threw their cloaks over it’s back and helped Jesus to climb on. When the people realized that Jesus had arrived in Jerusalem, they came out to greet him. Some threw their cloaks down in front of him as he rode along. Others laid down palm branches. “Praise God,” they shouted, “God’s King is coming !”
Wasn’t it wonderful, all the people came out to greet Jesus and give thanks for all he had done. They shouted “God’s King is here, Blessed is the King!”
Mothering Sunday is a time for us all to thank God for our mothers and those who have cared for us. I do hope you will be able to celebrate it with your family.
- If you have some sand at home see if you can make a sand picture. If you have some yellow paint, paint the desert and then draw or paint any insects or animals that live in the desert.
- Palm Sunday. Make palm trees by rolling up paper or newspaper and cutting one end into a fringe. Pull out the strips of paper to make it look like a palm tree.
- Mothering Sunday. I do hope you will make a Mother’s Day card. Don’t forget to tell Mum how special she is and how she helps you in so many ways.
Missing you all,
